Hydro Tasmania seeking 1,500 GWh new solar, wind
33+ min ago (326+ words) Hydro Tasmania is seeking to increase its renewable energy generation to meet growing energy demand and support the Australian state's industrial expansion. Hydro Tasmania is looking to sign a commercial offtake agreement with the developers of large-scale solar or wind projects that'can deliver'up to'1,500 GWh'annually and be operational within the next five to six years. The'state-government owned entity said it is seeking proposals'from new solar and wind developments'across the state'to'help'bring more power into the Tasmanian grid. Hydro Tasmania Executive General Manager Commercial Vedran Kovac said the open tender is part of efforts to incentivize new renewable developments that can work in concert with hydropower to meet the state's growing energy demands. "Investment in new solar and wind projects will enable existing and future energy-intensive industries to expand in Tasmania," he said. "The'best way to meet'future'demand'is a combination of wind, solar…...

Image: ENEL Green Power The investment, amounting to BRL 2.8 billion (EUR 453.4 million), has provided significant support to the local economy: more than 3,500 jobs were created during construction, 1,030 of which went to local residents, generating around BRL 7 million in labor income. The park is part of a broader framework of 24 projects implemented and 154 initiatives developed that have reached 47,800 people. With the Arinos project, Enel Group says it is reaffirming itself as Brazil's leading solar and wind operator, with 6.6 GW of total installed capacity (3.5 GW wind, 1.8 GW solar, 1.3 GW hydro). Globally, the Group's capacity totals 89 GW, about 63 GW of which comes from renewable sources. This article is powered by enelgreenpower, in partnership with pv magazine. More articles…...
Finland’s Polar Night to build 250 MWh sand battery for district heating provider
50+ min ago (225+ words) Only months after inaugurating the world's largest sand battery " a 1 MW/100 MWh thermal storage system " Polar Night has committed to building a project twice its size. Only months after inaugurating the world's largest sand battery " a 1 MW/100 MWh thermal storage system " Polar Night has committed to building a project twice its size. From ESS News Polar Night Energy will deploy an industrial-scale thermal energy storage unit for Lahti Energia's district heating network in V'ksy, Finland. The sand battery will provide 2 MW of thermal output and 250 MWh of storage capacity, positioning it as the world's largest sand-based thermal energy storage system upon completion. The installation will supply heat to the V'ksy district heating network and is expected to lower fossil-based emissions by approximately 60% annually, primarily through an estimated 80% reduction in natural gas consumption and reduced reliance on wood chips. "We want…...
Global grid-scale BESS deployment rises 38% through October
1+ hour, 18+ min ago (214+ words) Global grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) deployments have hit 156 GWh year-to-date. Over 153 GWh are still slated for commissioning in 2025, though delays and cancellations are likely to trim that total by year-end. Global grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) deployments have hit 156 GWh year-to-date. Over 153 GWh are still slated for commissioning in 2025, though delays and cancellations are likely to trim that total by year-end.From ESS News Global grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) installations have reached 156 GWh through October 2025, up 38% year-on-year compared with the same period in 2024, according to the latest data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence's Rho Motion. China saw a 27% increase, while Europe and North America both recorded growth of 21%. Remarkably, the rest of the world (ROW) experienced a staggering 242% jump in deployments, highlighting a rapid acceleration of BESS adoption outside the traditional major markets. Perovskite solar cell based on Mxene achieves record-breaking efficiency of 25.75%
1+ hour, 45+ min ago (462+ words) A research team in Spain has built what it claims to be the world's most efficient perovskite solar cell using MXenes or any other type of 2D-materials. The device relies on a Mxene interlayer that suppresses non-radiative recombination and improved charge extraction at the interface between the perovskite absorber and the electron transport layer. Researchers at Spain's University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) have fabricated a perovskite solar cell based on a light absorber incorporating two-dimensional titanium carbide (Ti3C2Tx), which is also known as MXene. "We placed MXene at the interface of the electron transport layer (ETL) based on tin oxide (SnO2) and the perovskite absorber to minimize oxygen vacancy and defects," the research's corresponding author, Shahzada Ahmad, told pv magazine. "The chlorine-terminated MXenes we used significantly reduced the oxygen vacancy present at the buried interface." Terminating Mxene with chlorine helped…...
Indian utility seeks land for new grid-connected solar project

When solar meets next-gen nuclear
2+ hour, 41+ min ago (295+ words) Scientists in China have proposed a novel scheduling framework for microgrids based on hybrid PV and a small modular nuclear reactors. The framework uses multi-objective distributionally robust optimization with a real-time reinforcement learning mechanism and is reportedly able to reduce operational costs by 18.7%. Researchers at China's Guangdong Power Grid have proposed integrating solar power with a small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) to enhance microgrids' short-term dispatch capability while improving their long-term economic viability. In the proposed system, PV and SMRs provide complementary power sources, while a generator and battery act as auxiliary resources. Hydrogen is produced by electrolyzers during surplus periods and stored for later use, while an energy management system (EMS) acts as the brain of the entire system, making decisions and integrating forecasts and real-time data. The system that was simulated as a case study included a 100 MW…...
US energy offices folded into new structure at Department of Energy
2+ hour, 48+ min ago (603+ words) The US Department of Energy (DoE) has removed renewable energy, grid modernization, and carbon-management units from its organizational chart and consolidated them into the Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, a shift confirmed in newly published federal documents. Image: Wikimedia Commons, Gage Skidmore, CC SA 4.0 The US DoE has released a new organizational chart that has removed groups focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and reducing carbon emissions. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) was a driving force supporting clean energy advancement by driving down consumer costs and supporting research, development, and deployment. EERE impact reports said utility-scale solar costs fell by 73%, onshore wind by 41%, and electric vehicle battery costs dropped by 79% over a decade under its cost-reduction support. The organization estimated it saved Americans an estimated $800 billion in energy costs since 1980. EERE investments helped support…...
