Japan’s PV module shipments hit 1.28 GW as residential demand accelerates

19+ hour, 5+ min ago (242+ words) Japan's solar module shipments hit 1.28 GW in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, driven by a sharp rise in residential demand that pushed domestic deliveries to 1.273 GW, up 111% from a year earlier, according to the JPEA, a trade group representing Japanese solar manufacturers. Residential PV installations jumped 126%, offsetting weaker growth in commercial systems, the JPEA said in its latest quarterly report. Foreign manufacturers continued to dominate the market, supplying 828 MW, or 65% of total shipments, up 114% year on year. Japanese suppliers shipped 452 MW, maintaining a 35% share. Production remained overwhelmingly offshore, with 95% of modules manufactured outside Japan, said the JPEA. The non-residential segment delivered 900 MW, up 105%, including 490 MW for large-scale power generation and 410 MW for general commercial use. Overseas shipments remained marginal at 6.5 MW, roughly two-thirds of last year's level. Modules rated 300 W and above accounted for most of the volume, totaling 1.131 GW…...

Italy issues new rules for PV project siting, solar fiscal breaks

18+ hour, 51+ min ago (326+ words) Image: Samuele Bertoli, Unsplash From pv magazine Italy The Italian Council of Ministers approved on Friday a new decree introducing new provisions relating to the Transizione 5.0 tax credit and the identification of suitable areas for large-scale wind and solar projects." As for the tax break, the government has decided to anticipate the deadline for submitting applications to November 27, with the previous date being December 31. Those who submitted applications after November 7 will be given the opportunity to submit any additional payments requested by the Italian energy agency " the Gestore dei servizi energetici (GSE) by December 6. Furthermore, it specifies that the measure cannot be combined with the Transizione 4.0 tax credit, and that companies applying for both incentives must choose one over the other. Finally, "250 million has been allocated for 2025 to support applications submitted for the Transizione 5.0 plan. As for the suitable areas…...

Morocco signs deal for 300,00 MT polysilicon production plant

23+ hour, 55+ min ago (306+ words) The Moroccan Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies has entered into an investment agreement for a polysilicon production plant set to have an annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes. Image: Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies of Morocco Moroccan Minister Karim Zidane has signed an investment agreement with GPM Holding Group to establish a polysilicon production plant in Morocco. Under the terms of the agreement, the polysilicon plant will be established within the Al-Watiya industrial zone in the southwestern province of Tan-Tan. Local press has reported that GPM Holding, a Moroccan-based solar energy company, has committed $800 million for the facility. A statement published by Morocco's Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies says the plant will have a production capacity of up to 30,000 MT annually, of which 85% will be directed towards export to…...

Capture price exposes true performance of solar plants

22+ hour, 39+ min ago (263+ words) Image: Markus Spiske, Unsplash At kiloWattsol, analysts quantify this gap by calculating the historical capture price of each project. The method uses real-world climate data to reconstruct a project's hourly or sub-hourly production profile and applies historical market prices at a 15-minute resolution when needed to reflect short-term price dynamics. The two graphs below illustrate this dynamic: In each case, the analysis compares the monthly capture price of the power plant to the corresponding M0. The trend is clear. The fixed-tilt plant remains close to M0 with a slightly positive but moderate performance. The tracker plant outperformed almost throughout the year. The annual difference summarizes this dynamic: +2.70 ($3.12)/MWh, +2.70/MWh, and +3.60/MWh over three years for the tracker plant, compared with +0.30/MWh, +0.5/MWh, and then a slight underperformance in 2025 for the fixed-tilt plant. These discrepancies are not marginal. For a large-scale asset, they…...

Hydro Tasmania seeking 1,500 GWh new solar, wind

1+ hour, 45+ min ago (326+ words) Hydro Tasmania is seeking to increase its renewable energy generation to meet growing energy demand and support the Australian state's industrial expansion. Hydro Tasmania is looking to sign a commercial offtake agreement with the developers of large-scale solar or wind projects that'can deliver'up to'1,500 GWh'annually and be operational within the next five to six years. The'state-government owned entity said it is seeking proposals'from new solar and wind developments'across the state'to'help'bring more power into the Tasmanian grid. Hydro Tasmania Executive General Manager Commercial Vedran Kovac said the open tender is part of efforts to incentivize new renewable developments that can work in concert with hydropower to meet the state's growing energy demands. "Investment in new solar and wind projects will enable existing and future energy-intensive industries to expand in Tasmania," he said. "The'best way to meet'future'demand'is a combination of wind, solar…...

When solar meets next-gen nuclear

3+ hour, 52+ min ago (295+ words) Scientists in China have proposed a novel scheduling framework for microgrids based on hybrid PV and a small modular nuclear reactors. The framework uses multi-objective distributionally robust optimization with a real-time reinforcement learning mechanism and is reportedly able to reduce operational costs by 18.7%. Researchers at China's Guangdong Power Grid have proposed integrating solar power with a small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) to enhance microgrids' short-term dispatch capability while improving their long-term economic viability. In the proposed system, PV and SMRs provide complementary power sources, while a generator and battery act as auxiliary resources. Hydrogen is produced by electrolyzers during surplus periods and stored for later use, while an energy management system (EMS) acts as the brain of the entire system, making decisions and integrating forecasts and real-time data. The system that was simulated as a case study included a 100 MW…...
